Coffee farm Kuna Yala kids in Boquete, Panama (edited today) Some coffee farms (fincas) in Boquete have company housing and Finca Cotowa is one of them. Workers, generally natives, come for the season and they are quite well payed - well, for the level of living in this area. It's amazing to see how happy people they are and the kids are always very, very clean, dressed with new clothes (or in very good condition).
Rana Dorada (Golden Frog) - a sculpture made out of concrete, in front of the farmer's market in Boquete. This is one of Panama's symbols, appearing on state lottery tickets and in local mythology. It is thought that when the frog dies it turns to gold. It is believed that the frog brings good luck to those fortunate enough to see it - I haven't... this frog is a critically endangered specie. In 2010 the Panamanian Government passed legislation recognizing August 14 as National Golden Frog Day the main celebration event is marked annually by a parade in the streets of El Valle de Anton, and a display of golden frogs at the El Valle Amphibian Conservation Center in the El Nispero Zoo, El Valle.
Apr. 20 2012 Ukrainian Church in Ottawa - Looking for nice Orthodox churches to photograph, I found this one that attracted my eyes with its golden cupolas and great windows - it was not very sunny, but I really like this kind of cloudy light :) * I'm so proud to let you know that I won the contest for old photography on Dgrin, with the "Chateau Laurier" photo I posted few days ago :)
Apr. 18, 2012 First Magnolia blossoms in Ottawa - notice the wrinkled petals - they had just sprung from the buds :) Yes, the spring is late this year here. In reply to "fotoeffects": Ottawa can be considered far North, depending on where you are... - on the map, at the same latitude of 45° you can also find Minneapolis/St. Paul in N. america, or Torino, Bologna, Bordeaux, Bucharest in Europe.
Chateau Laurier, Ottawa - A century of existence Winner of the DSS #100 "Photography 100 yrs ago" ! The hotel was to be opened on 26 April 1912, but Charles Melville Hays, who was returning to Canada for the hotel opening, perished on Titanic when it sank on 15 April. A subdued opening ceremony was held on 12 June 1912, with Sir Wilfrid Laurier in attendance.
