Read MoreMarch 25, 2012 Busy road... Going up in the mountains of Panama toward Santa Fe village, we had to wait about one hour behind this herd of cows who was going to the same place - it was a funny experience :) We didn't have Internet connection, so I'm behind everything again... We're getting close to the time of returning home and - uff, I hate to leave this fantastic place :( PS: I used PixelBender to make it like a painting. PS2: For those who asked about some explanation regarding the story in the picture from 2 days ago, unfortunately I will never know the answer. (ZZ)
Pure PJ: Road block on Inter-American Highway by Indigenous people as a protest against the government. Read more on this news article: http://emergingterrains.com/investmentnews/panama/tourist-perspective-road-closure-traps-travelers-in-panama/ The road has been blocked for already 4 days yesterday, but because we didn't listen to the news, we were actually traveling in that direction and had to stop and go back to where we came from :) First we thought it was just a tree that had fallen and they were trying to remove it LOL. By asking a policeman we found out the reality - those buses full of tourists and many others had to turn around as well.... The government offered a free flight to Panama City from the nearest airport to the "Gringo's". Needless to mention about how crowded the airport was ... * The road is still blocked with similar cut trees over the length of many villages. The government is negotiating with the indigenous people and nobody knows how long this will take.
View of the Volcán Barú from Cerro Punta, Panama Volcán Barú is a dormant, but potentially active volcano just south of the Continental Divide in the western Chiriquí Province. It is surrounded by a fertile area of cool highlands drained by the Chiriquí and Caldera rivers. The towns of Volcan and Cerro Punta can be found on its western side, while Boquete is on the eastern flank. The occasional fall of hail or ice pellets has been reported on the summit, where the minimal temperature can be below 0°C (32°F) and the formation of frost is frequent during the dry season. - The volcano is almost all the time covered by a cloud forest.
