The titular town of Blankenberg with its ruin of a fortress, a church and a gate is located high above the river Sieg. A town wall surrounds this well-maintained little town, which has a lot of half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th century worth seeing. The status of a town was given to Blankenberg in 1245. For quite a long time Blankenberg had been the smallest town of Germany. In 1934, it lost its status of a town again. Road
