Centennial Flame in Ottawa, Canada
04. Jan. 09
Centennial Flame
This is a fountain with a symbolic flame in the center. On 1, 1967, then Prime Minister Lester
B. Pearson first lit the flame to mark the Centennial celebrations, which was the 100th anniversary
of the Canadian Confederation.
The fountain is located between the gates to Parliament Hill and the doors of the Center Block,
and each province is represented in the fountain by the coat of arms shield that can be seen,
which the water runs underneath. Above all, it is a monument to Canadian unity and the combination
of fire and water is meant to symbolize the togetherness of English and French Canada. January

on January 4, 2009I love the symbolism of this fountain...that was an interesting piece of history you shared with us... It doesn't look any warmer than the other day...that poor man is either about to sneeze or is trying desperately to warm his hands...lol.
